This is the Lake District you hoped for but can seldom find - close to lakes and fells yet far from the madding crowd. Set in the beautiful eastern fells of the Lake District, Lowther Estate is a great place to explore including the Deer Park, walks along the river where, if you're lucky, you may spot an otter or two, look around the Castle and Gardens where 400 years of history are being unearthed or visit when one of the popular events is taking place.
From here you can also explore the full extent of Ullswater, one of the prettiest lakes in the area, by boat or by foot. With some of the most well-known walking routes based around Ullswater there are paths for all abilities and inclinations. The lake itself is 9 miles long and offers some of the most splendid scenery in the Lake District, so for the less energetic, why not relax and enjoy the passing scenery from one of the steamers that have sailed the lake since 1855.
